Greetings!

I am a certified Healer Practitioner who has been working with therapeutic grade essential oils for four years. Though I don't claim to know everything, I do know where to find answers for most anything related to pure oils. Please don't hesitate to ask.

Please introduce yourself here in this discussion. If you are a practitioner in the oils, please keep your posts about your work here. That way new people will find you when they join. You are welcome to answer questions, but please don't spam the forum with your ads.

We know quite a few others who specialize in pets and oils, so your furry friends can find healing here as well.

Though I do belong to a specific company where I get my oils, I have found other sources that are just as good. Please note that all recommendations in this forum will require therapeutic grade oils. This is highly important because other oils, including essential oils can be harmful if they are not therapeutic grade. Also note that we do not claim to be doctors and are not giving medical advice. We only give personal advice and you are responsible for making your own choices and taking your own risks when using the advice herein.

I just bought my first book on oils! I really want to get started making some of my own,but it's not really clear on where to start as far as, do I have to buy essential oils or can I use flowers and leaves and just go from there myself?

Hi I am Seshmet a Usui grand master teacher/healer living in Warren, Michigan. I have a few essential oils myself and have used them in baths, aromatherapy and even chakra clearing but not sure what you mean by therapeutic grade do they say it on the oils? How do you tell the difference? Thanks

I got a private response from Lorna and she mentioned the best book is "Healing oils of the Bible" , so if you answers are not answered do it privately like i did

I understand how to mix oils using essentials, but how can I use fresh/dry herbs and spices in oils?

Hi,

I'm sorry, the political side of my life has taken over this winter.

I highly recommend getting the book Healing Oils of the Bible. It is the best book I have found for learning the difference between average essential oils, therapeutic grade essential oils and teas/tinctures. Most oils, even those found at health food stores are not pure oils, no matter what the bottle says. These oils have been distilled through one perfume industry or another and have the potential of being contaminated from all kinds of sources. The first and worst are chemical fertilizers and insecticides, the chemicals of which get concentrated during the distillation process. There are many other ways the perfume industry allows contamination into their oils, but it it a discussion for a whole book.

There are very few companies who distill their oils from organic plants with very high standards of purity (not just FDA standards). I have found two now. One works as a direct marketing, you can't get there oils in stores who are not distributors. There is another and I have not sampled their oils yet, so I can not testify for their quality. I do plan to try their oils. Any other oils are suspect to having contaminants and should NOT be used in the same ways as truly therapeutic grade oils.

As far as using therapeutic grade oils with herbs, I say you don't really want to go backward. The oils are the pure healing parts of the plant removed from the bulk. It's rather like having the wheat from the chaff. Would you want to add the chaff back into your wheat? I'm not saying that the plants are not healing, it's more that a therapeutic grade oil is the refined part of the healing elements of the plant. When creating therapies, mixing them back into raw herbs isn't the point.

This doesn't mean you can't use them very well in cooking. Though, I say use the raw plants in cooking and use the oils as medicinals. Again, the book explains this much better than I can in a short message.

After almost three years of using therapeutic grade oils, I'm spoiled. I can tell the difference immediately and will settle for nothing but the purest of oils. We have completely removed all pharmaceuticals from the house with a bottle of iodine as the only exception. All medical care is provided by one oil blend or another. On the extreme end of this we have successfully treated brown recluse bites, black widow bites, severe allergies to bee stings, and rusty scratches all with the same oil blend. All colds, if they even enter the house, go away twice as fast with oil use.

Aromatherapy is only a small part of using therapeutic grade essential oils. With few exceptions these oils are edible and work in the body to support many functions. The most common use is absorption through the skin. Those people with sensitive skin will need to dilute their oils. This family uses the neat (undiluted). Most of the oils will break down manufactured chemicals and help the body eliminate toxins, so therapeutic grade oils are great for detox programs. They are also wonderful for healing emotional issues without excessive emotional trama. The oils love Reiki and work very well with all alternative health modalities.

This is only a scratching of what therapeutic grade essential oils are all about. I am available for free classes on most oil topics.

Angel Blessings, Lorna

Hi Lorna,

I have been using a book called The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood for the last 8 years. She does a wonderful job of telling me what each oil is used for and there are over 600 recipes in there to use for many different things. I have Lavender, Tea Tree, Peppermint, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Rosemary, Thyme, Lemon, and Clove Essential Oils at all times in my basic kit. I also have carrot oil and about 10 others too.
I know first hand about quality. I have bought some that I ended up throwing away after I got them home and tried them. If you buy any make sure it is pure. I found two differnt places that I know is pure oil. I love Lavender Oil because it is antibiotic, antiseptic, antiviral and antifungal. I put about 10 drops in a small spray bottle and use it to finish off the counters and faucets. I spray the bedding, curtains in my home and use it when I am staying in any hotel. Tea Tree oil was used to sanitize medical equipment before sterilization equipment and it is used for Bacterial Infections, Fungal Infections, Viral, Colds, Influenza, Cold Sores, Warts, Verrucas, Inflamation, Acne, Burns, Candida, Shock, Hysteria. I know that Thyme and carrot oils need to be diluted to use too.
I have been using the recipes since I got the book. I found most of them work too. But I have only tried about 100 of them so far. I have only been sick once in the last 8 years and that was just a 3 weeks ago. Some kind of funky flu that was still affecting me as of last week. I use these oils in a water and oil burner and rings that hold oil and go around a light bulb. I have even put a few drops on a cool light bulb then turned it on. Just make sure it is a cool light bulb because the oils are flameable.

Bright Blessing,
Ken

I was actually wondering not about mixing essential oils with herbs/plants, but using a base oil and adding herbs/plants if you didn't have the essential oil. Can you even do that?

are there any herbs that you'd suggest that do work well with oils? Are there any that you'd suggest using as incense or to carry. I'm looking specifically for help with connecting with my guides better, meditation, and healing.

Hi Lisa,

I use sunflower oil because it helps you from sun burns when I am mixing oil as a base oil. I have used sweet almond oil the same way. I have never added any kind of herb or plant into an essential oil. The oil is the plant, flower, tree, bark, but reduced so it's purest form. There should be no need to added anything but the oils. Read my post and it can help you a little bit. But as far as any oil to help you to connect better with your guide I have no clue. There are many kinds used for incense or to carry, to meditate and healing but it all depends upon what your trying to do.

Bright Blessings,
Ken

I am completely new to this part of healing, and so I am listening to everything and taking notes. I have used oils in healing, but only used my nose and my instincts about what to use. I will definitely have to get the books mentioned here and do more research.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful information you are sharing!

Sending warm hugs, and peace, love and light to all!

I've found that certain smells really help me get to the state of mind I'm looking for. There are oils I wouldn't have thought of that I found in books that are great. Some smells I thought were just for the kitchen, and then find out they are great for certain meditations, or just to help me get grounded, or heal. Clary sage is my latest essential, though I'm hopeing to obtain alot more tomorrow at the festival. I'm not an expert, but if there's interest I'll answer any questions I can. I love helping and have alot of notes, book info, and what experience I have had. I put oils on crystals I wear so I can smell them while I wear them if I've got things I'm doing that I need extra help on or something I'm trying to keep on my mind. Like meetings that I'm nervous about. I've put on a sodolite bracelet I made and then put a chamomile/vanilla mix, just a drop, on the bracelet and then while I'm out I can take a minute to hold the crystals, smell the oils, and take myself to a place that's not so anxious, calmer. I also have information for certains oils and angels, to connect. Have a great weekend. I'll be at the festival tomorrow, Saturday!
